Support, drive, and track redevelopment efforts of the Downtown Akron Development Corporation (DADC), a nonprofit organization dedicated to downtown growth and investment.

Why is This Important

A thriving downtown benefits all of Akron, creating jobs, attracting investment, and giving residents more places to work, shop, and enjoy. The DADC provides the focused, coordinated leadership needed to accelerate downtown's revitalization.

Initiative Wins

Established the DADC in 2025, including foundational components such as the board of directors, new executive director, operating funding, 501(c)(3) status, and City representation on the board.
DADC launched a matching grant in 2025 related to the downtown Business Development grant program.
DADC approved 4 Downtown Business Development grants (as of February 2026) to support $2.3M in investment and more than 70 jobs.

What We’ve Done This Quarter

Supported DADC in approving 2 additional Downtown Business Development grants, totaling $225,000 in grants with around $2.9M in leveraged investment.
Passed legislation in February 2026 simplifying downtown signage approvals through form-based zoning code updates.

Maintaining regular coordination with DADC leadership to align City and DADC priorities.
Supporting DADC's preparation to launch an additional grant program for downtown businesses in 2026.
