Why is This Important
A Special Improvement District gives business and property owners a formal, self-directed mechanism to invest in their own corridor. For Highland Square, this means increased resources for cleanliness, safety, and beautification, funded by and for the people who have the greatest stake in the neighborhood's success.
Initiative Wins
Created the Highland Square SID.
Established a 9-member board for the Highland Square SID comprised of property owners within the footprint.

What We’ve Done This Quarter
Obtained the petitions necessary to establish the SID in 2026 and filed incorporation documents with the State of Ohio.
Held the initial SID member meeting in March 2026 and seated a 9-member board.
Drafted a services plan for the SID.
Entered into contract with private security for additional patrols.

Working with SID board to draft assessment petition.
Supporting SID board in working with Keep Akron Beautiful on SID beautification plans and efforts.
