Assess Public Safety Forces Staffing and Service Models

Description

Determine appropriate staffing levels and service models for the Akron Police Department (APD) and Akron Fire Department (AFD) that reflect community needs and available resources.

Why is This Important

Getting staffing right means delivering the right response at the right time without overburdening officers and firefighters. These studies ensure Akron's safety forces are structured to serve residents effectively now and into the future.

Initiative Wins

  • Completed a request for proposals (RFP) process and selected a vendor to conduct an APD staffing study.

  • Reduced overtime shift limits for AFD from 10 to 3 per day to ensure that our firefighters and EMS professionals are getting proper rest between shifts to take care of themselves appropriately.
