Why is This Important
Clean waterways and reliable infrastructure are foundational to public health and environmental quality. These investments protect the Cuyahoga River and the Little Cuyahoga River, community assets that belong to everyone, while meeting federal water quality standards and reducing flood risk.
Initiative Wins
Completed design and secured funding for 1.4 miles of Little Cuyahoga River restoration at 6 sites, including removal of 3 lowhead dams.
Completed the Northside Interceptor Tunnel boring in November 2025 - the 25th of 26 major infrastructure projects in Akron's long-term water quality improvement program.

What We’ve Done This Quarter
Completed bank stabilization of the former power plant site along the Gorge Dam pool to begin the sediment removal process.
What We’re Working on Next Quarter
Completing construction of the Northside Interceptor Tunnel (currently 70% complete).
Beginning river restoration at 6 Little Cuyahoga River sites, including streambed improvements, slope stabilization, and floodplain restoration.
Working with federal, state, and local partners on Gorge Dam removal and Cuyahoga River habitat restoration.
