Expand Out-of-School Time Investments

Description

Provide targeted investments in out-of-school time programming to support youth opportunity and contribute to violence prevention across Akron.

Why is This Important

What young people do after school and on weekends matters enormously. Quality out-of-school programming keeps youth engaged, builds skills, and strengthens the social connections that support long‑term success, reducing the conditions that lead to youth violence.

Initiative Wins

  • Launched Youth Success Summit in 2024 as the backbone organization for out-of-school time programming.

  • Awarded $100,000 in Sports and Wellness grants to 49 organizations in 2025.

  • Launched Connect at the REC pilot, serving 450+ youth in grades 6-12 on Friday evenings at community centers.

  • Held the 2025 Akron City Festival, drawing 4,500+ attendees including 1,400+ youth and 50+ organizations.
